MNEMOS, Jewel and Collectable Boxes
Mallet, London
In collaboration with a pre-eminent Parisian atelier specializing in the finest of hand-made objects, Asymptote has created a series of gold boxes, each unique and different, and each inspired by the ebb and flow of a viscous cascade of gold and of the application of a formal logic to this movement to extend and apply form to surface. These boxes mark a re-introduction of the once highly coveted and still highly collectable “precious box” found in the 1700s. The finest of boxes were perhaps no larger than the palm of your hand but possessed the detailing and complex hinging of an object much larger – the perfection of each join, closure and hinge were the eloquent expression of a master’s most coveted skills.
